Sachin Jaltare

Sachin Jaltare’s mixed media works question a dance of opposites. They explore the balance of form and formlessness, and of vibrancy and throb. They also explore the mortal and divine. Sachin Jaltare paintings mix figurative and abstract elements. They create a gripping story that is both Indian and modern. Pretty men and women, representing Shiva and Parvati, portray fragments and silhouettes. They lock in a sensuous duet. Their eyes lower, fingers trail, and they half-embrace amid flames. The sylphs and women, now men, are medieval knights. They have red tikka tattoos on their foreheads. They are set against dark, moody, nighttime landscapes in black, grey, scarlet, and blue. The expressionist, acrylic canvases feature esoteric symbols from nature and Hindu lore.

Even by now I had started to write; I was drawing the natural world, says Jaltare. Art was his future-found vocation, as his father was a painter too. But the Nagpur University topper in Applied Arts could not pursue his career due to a lack of funds. He found a job as an illustrator at an ad agency in Hyderabad soon after graduating in 1991. His education got him an open grade, that of the exhibited player, after his first performance in 2000.

Looking at Sachin Jaltare paintings is like exploring an unknown, unmanned boundary. It lies between the outer and inner worlds, between form and color, and amid being and nothingness.

Sachin Jaltare paintings are alive with spiritual themes. But, it was not always so. A journey led him to paint Tales of Infinity. It was a vibrant collection of abstracts shown in 2012. He is now considering it again. As always, that journey is at least as attractive as its peak.
