Amit Ambalal

Amit Ambalal born in 1943 in Ahmedabad, Amit is a graduate in Arts, Commerce and Law. While he carried on his family business activities for some years, he was always involved in arts and had his art education under Shri.Chaganlal Jadav. Since 1979, he is a full time painter.

In particular, he is interested in the paintings of the Nathdwara School of painting. Krishna as Shrinathji – Rajasthani Paintings from Nathdwara is the title of the book which he wrote on this subject and was published by Mapin in 1987. A display of Nathdwara paintings from his collection was also held in 1989 in New Delhi as part of an exhibition that he had organized. Watercolour was the primary medium of Amit Ambalal’s work. Watercolours are his favourite medium as he says they are able to tell you when the painting is complete, and they have the ability to provide a clear sense of transparency that is not found in other medias. There is no doubt that Amit Ambalal, an artist who works with pure colours rather than using palettes to combine them, is well known for his use of pure colours on paper. His work has been shown in many shows around India, as well as in several group exhibitions abroad. He still considers himself a student, despite the fact that he has been the subject of over 40 solo and group exhibitions. He lives and works in Ahmedabad.
