About Thota Laxminarayana
Artist Thota Laxminarayana experiments on his canvas with a stylized vocabulary that is deep-rooted in Indian folk art to modernize the rural idiom. Without diluting the essence of his environment, he creates visual challenges in his compositions. The serene appearing folk in his paintings are executed with an exceptional economy of lines. Although portrayed in a vibrant palette the color scheme remains subtle and well-coordinated. As each of his paintings is a social documentary of rural life, the spectator never gets bored. Coexisting with the flora and fauna are appropriate indicators of green lives living in harmony in their milieu.

By using a stylized vocabulary that is deeply rooted in the Indian folk tradition, I attempt to modernize the rural idiom. Without diluting the essence of my environment, I capture cultural documentations in my works. The serene appearing folks in my paintings are executed in a rich matrix of lines. Although portrayed in a vibrant palette, the colour scheme in my work is highly contemporary. It is never a dull moment when viewing my paintings, as each is a social documentary. I also portray humans coexisting with the flora and fauna which are indicators of green lives living in harmony. But, lately, after my shift to the city, I depict the urban settlement with my rural sentiments. – Thota Laxminarayana
