Laxman Aelay

Laxman Aelay (born June 8, 1965) is an Indian painter. His muse has been the lives of the poor in his village. Their culture and their homes inspired him, too. He likes doing monochromes. Recently, he has turned to Hyperrealism. Laxman Aelay was born in Kadirenigudem, Nalgonda, India, to Chandraiah. He received his BFA in Painting from JNTU.

He has a Master’s in Fine Arts from JNTU. In Class X, Laxman Aelay, like Eklavya, learned to draw a straight line by watching a signboard artist, Gopi, in Bhongir. He then moved to Hyderabad and began his career as a signboard artist. Later, he joined the Eenadu newspaper. He is also a book illustrator. He designed posters for the movie Rangeela. Later, he worked as the ad designer for the Telugu film Deyyam.

His paintings, “Yaadi” and “Malli,” showcased Telangana’s traditions through its women. A solo show, “Images of Kadirenigudem,” in 1999 was his watershed year. It established him as an artist acclaimed by critics. In a 2006 exhibition, he painted using images from Kadirenigudem in Nalgonda. He sketched on the prints and blended them in Photoshop. He is famous for creating the new Telangana logo. It is unique, with imagery from both the country and Telangana.
